In this program, students learn by doing community projects as well as through classroom instruction.   Several projects are now ongoing under the program name, from which any income will be used to send students to seminars, lectures, and conferences.

1.   Worked for the International Conference

Students in the class worked with Ministry of Justice and Yangzhou City government to organize the conference, "International Conference-- New Developments in Criminal Justice, 2004".  And students translated all conference related papers from both English to Chinese and Chinese to English.

2.   Document Translation Services

Students are translating discipline-related texts for publication in China.  Three newly-published books are in the translation process and will be published in Chinese by February 2004.

  •         'School and Delinquency' - Denise Gottfredson

  •         'Losing Legitimacy' - Gary LaFree

  •         'Cooperate Crime, Law and Social Control' - Sally Simpson

During the translation process, each book is translated by a dedicated group, verified by another group, and then finalized by professionals prior to publishing.

2.   Work as Correctional Officers in Prisons

Several students teach courses in Nanjing Prison, where they do work as correctional officers.

3.   Publications of Papers

Students in the program are writing research papers for publication.  Four research papers are currently in progress and will be published in distinct periodicals in January 2004.  Papers will be reviewed by Dr. Charles Wellford and will be published using the program's name.

4.   Conference Coordination

This program will co-sponsor an international conference with China's Ministry of Justice in July 2004.  The conference is entitled "New Technology in Criminal Justice".

5.   Fundraising Organization

Students are organizing a fundraising branch to help subsidize education costs.  The fundraising section will come into being in January 2004 under the leadership of Xiao Chen.  At this time, the fundraising group is still in the planning stage
